Design
From the beginning of our project, we have recognised the importance of it being led by the community’s needs and requirements.
As a small, isolated Parish, we have specific issues that affect our community which relate to the disparate nature of some of the households and associated social isolation that this can cause.
The design proposal for our Hall was led by our community engagement. We have focussed on the priorities of local people and developed a workable solution.
A more welcoming, environment with greater flexibility for use, will improve on the facilities we currently provide, and encourage more people to use the Hall on a regular basis.
Ensuring that the Hall is more accessible, more comfortable, and more able to accommodate the needs of our community, will secure its future, ensure its future affordability and provide a sustainable Community Centre for generations to come.

Timescale
Our project began in 2018 with a small group of individuals passionate about improving and preserving our Village Hall for future generations of Ashreigney’s Residents.
Despite the pandemic and the difficulties that this created for community engagement, we persevered and using questionnaires, displays and updates, we achieved a design that reflects the needs that our community highlighted as priority. Full planning permission was achieved in September 2022 and we achieved Building Regulations approval in October 2023.
We are now working hard to raise the funds required to complete the renovation, and to have the Hall ready to be opened by the Autumn of 2025.
Budget
The Quantity Surveyor (Gates Consultants) has provided a Cost Estimate for the full renovation which totals £1,204,000.
This is an eye-watering amount of money for us to raise, at a time when we all recovering from a worldwide pandemic, rising costs and huge competition for grants and funding.
So in order to achieve our aims and objectives, we have divided the renovation into 2 phases.
Phase 1 will focus on the existing building, ensuring that it becomes thermally efficient with modernised facilities by providing:
Insulated walls, floor and ceiling.
New windows and doors.
A new heating system.
The building will be rewired with new lighting, a fire alarm system and disabled hearing loop.
The old, damaged drainage system will be replaced.
The roof will be repaired and the old rainwater furniture replaced
A new external path will be provided for easier access by wheelchairs and buggies.
A Solar Panel (PV) array with battery storage.
The costs associated with Phase 1 of the project have been provided by the Quantity Surveyor, total £577,000
